EU / Mercosur: 'historic' trade deal opens up many new opportunities

Described as "historic" by some, it is a monster for others. The trade agreement between the European Union (EU) and Mercosur signed on June 28, after two decades of painstaking negotiations, was treated with a mixed reception within the European bloc, while the European Commission puts forward the benefits on both sides of a text whose content is not yet made public in detail.


Hailed by the European employers, the conclusion of the commercial treaty represents a real boon for the car manufacturers "who will be able to take advantage of the reduction of the customs duties in the Mercosur countries", today fixed at 35%, underlines a statement of ACEA, the association representing the interests of the sector in Europe.


But the opening of the market of the four South American countries (Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay) to industrial goods "Made in EU" will not be done without counterparts in the agricultural sector ...
